General Information and Grooming

Temperament: Gentle and loving nature. Lots of courage.

Behaviour with Children: Extremely good. Always ready to romp and play.

With other pets: Very friendly, however, due to strong hunting instinct, may chase smaller animals.

Activity Level: High.

Obedience Ability: Fair: Does respond to basic obedience training.

Learning Ability: High.

Expected Life span: 12 years plus/minus.

Living Environment: Basically an indoor dog,however, does require a lot of outdoor exercise in large backyard. Beagle's coat is unsuitable for just standing around for long period of time in our Canadian winters. Also requires to be on leash if not in enclosed area. If left alone for any length of time inclined to howl. Has an active mind which needs to be kept occupied.

Watch-dog: Pretty good - will bark to alert.

Guard Dog:Unsuitable.

If all the above is taken into consideration, makes an excellent family pet.

This breed does not require extensive grooming.

Coat should be brushed at least once a week.

Shampooing can be carried out whenever necessary.

Ears should be checked regularly and cleaned inside.

Eyes and teeth should be checked regularly.

Nails should be clipped approx. every four - six weeks.
