APPEARANCE - AIREDALE
Brief Summary
Head: Well balanced with little difference between length of skull and foreface.
Skull: Should be long and flat, not too broad between the ears and narrowing slightly to the eyes.
Scalp to be free of wrinkles, stop hardly visible.
Ears: V-shaped, to the side of head, not pointing to the eyes, small but not out of proportion to the size of dog. Top fold line of ear should be above the level of the skull.
Eyes: Dark, small, not prominent, full of expression, keennes and intelligence.
Teeth: Strong and white. Bite either level or vise-like.Slightly overlapping or scissor bite is permissible.
Body: Back should be short, strong and level. Ribs well sprung. Little space between last rib and the hip joint.
Hindquarters: Strong, muscular with no droop.
Tail: Root of tail set well up on the back, not curled over.
Coat: Hard, dense and wirey, lying straight and close. Should be a shorter growth of softer hair termed the undercoat.
Color: Head and ears should be tan, ears sometimes darker shade. Legs up to thighs and elbows and the under part of body and chest are tan, sometimes runs into the shoulder.
Sides and upper parts of body should be black or dark grizzle. A red mixture if often found in the black.
Size: Dogs measure approximately 23 inches in height at the shoulder, bitches slightly less.
