GENERAL INFORMATION.....BORZOI
Brief summary
Temperament:A loving companion. Well behaved member of the family. Keenly alert, intelligent.
Behaviour with Children: Very gentle attitude, especially when raised with choildren. Altho as an adult, not willing to run and play with them.
Behaviour with other pets:Not good with cats or small fluffy dogs unless raised with them.
Activity Level:As this breed is built for running, they need an area where he can stretch his legs to satisfy his need to gallop and keep in good condition..
Obedience Ability: Motivational play training a good way to teach your Borzoi, being very soft in disposition, this breed cannot be corrected harshly.
Life Expectancy: 10years plus/minus.
Health: The breed enjoys better health than many others. The biggest problem is bloat or torsion, an ailment common to all deep-chested breeds. Bloat* is life-threatening and requires immediate medical attention. Bone cancer is also a problem in the breed, although not as prevalent as bloat. Eye problems (progressive retinal atrophy), heart problems, (cardiomyopathy), and hypothyroidism do occur occasionally. There is a genetic link to these diseases, so always ask breeders about these diseases when looking for a puppy. Hip dysplasia, common in most large breeds, is practically nonexistent in the Borzoi.
