GROOMING - CAIRN TERRIER
Brief summary
Cairn Terriers do not require a great deal of
grooming.
A good daily brushing, alternating wire and
ordinary brush should suffice.
Once a year Cairn should be hand stripped to
promote healthy growth of both coats.
Hand Stripping: Grasp the hair with one
hand using the fingers to hold the skin in place,
give a quick pull with the other hand and this will easily pull out all
the old and dead heair.
If bathing the Cairn, this should be done using an
oil based shampoo, so that coat does not
become too dry.
A hand dryer set on low can be used after dog has
been towel dried. In the event the skin or coat
has become too dry, a preparation of warm olive oil, massaged into the
skin will work wonders.
Check ears regularly and keep inside of ears
clean.
Check eyes often to make sure clear of any
obstruction.
Check teeth regularly and keep clean to prevent
tartar build up.
Claws should be kept short and depending on dog,
nails should be clipped every 4 - 6 weeks.
