Breed Information.

Brief summary:

One of the most aristocratic of dog breeds, the Cavalier has for many years been a favoured pet in England. He is an excellent housepet, clean in his habits and not given to excessive barking.

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels go back in origin to the King Charles Spaniel who had a much flatter face and domed head. The King Charles was bred to Cocker Spaniels and over a period of time, as the resulting progidy became uniform in appearance the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was created.

This breed has always been a favourite with the aristocracy and in 1945 the English Kennel Club officially declared the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel to be a separate breed and granted a separate registration.

Since that time, the breed has gained popularity in North America and has been recognized by both the American Kennel Club and also the Canadian Kennel Club.
