Brief summary
That the Border Terrier is an old breed, there is little doubt and are still the main breed being bred on the border of Northumberland and Scotland. They are used for bolting (not worrying) foxes. Many of the Fox and Otter Hound packs possess a Border Terrier for this particular purpose. This sturdy little fellow has long enough legs and enough stamina to keep up with a horse, even though he is quite s mall. The bold little Border Terrier has also been used to hunt marten, otter and the fierce badger. A good Border Terrier will go to ground and face the most savage fox, otter or badger. This terrier is able to go to "ground" where other breeds could not enter. They have been known to enter holes in rocks and be lost for days. Bad weather is nothing to them wet and cold being all the same, for the breed's hardiness is one of its many assets. The Border Terrier is clean in his habits, very intelligent, affectionate and as a companion cannot be surpassed. |
